Hello and Thanks For Being Green!
The April 5th protests were a massive success. Greens were well represented at the Bowling Green rally. Six hundred people protested at the Four Corners, 2% of BG's population! Around the country at least 3 million and possibly as many as 5.2 million participated, telling Trump Hands Off America! Thank you for those who attended. Some of the organizers of the April 5 protest are calling for another round of protests, April 19th. Are we interested? Please respond to this email of you are.
Also on April 19th, one of our Greens, Savannah Click is organizing a litter pick up. People will be meeting at the Woodland Mall at 2 PM. Wear gloves and come ready to work.
There's a ton of other activities planned for Earth month that the Greens are going to be a part of. The next one is the Bob Latta no show Town Hall planned for this Saturday, April 12, 2 to 4 PM. Citizens will be going to tell Latta what they think of him and his failures to protect our country from the ravages of Trumpism. I will be speaking at the end, summing up Latta's attacks on the environment from a Green Party perspective. Try to come and cheer me on
Here's a list of other activities we're involved in this month. Try to make it to as many as you can.
- Sunday, April 20, Pro-Palestine protest, 3-4, Four Corners;
- Wednesday, April 16, 11-4, Eco-Fair, Outside Student Union BGSU;
- Tuesday, April 22, EARTH DAY PARTY!, 6-9 PM, Joe's house 517 S. Main Street;
- Monday, May 4, Pro-Palestine protest, 3-4, Four Corners;
- Monday, April 28, Presentation to Municipal Utility Board to end BG's rooftop solar penalties, 5 PM, BG City Hall 305 N Main St.
But, we must always remember that we are primarily a political party. There is a special election going on right now. Early voting has already started for the May 6 special election. We always encourage Greens to vote in every election. There is a state constitutional amendment proposed to allow Ohio to issue $2.5 billion in bonds for infrastructure. Not surprisingly, this bill prioritizes the wrong issues. Most of the money will go for roads and bridges. However some will go for protecting our waters from sewage, and some may go for reducing solid wastes. We recommend voting for the amendment.
There are also school levies in Bowling Green, Perrysburg, and Rossford. We recommend voting for all of these. Our public schools have been ravaged by a combination of state funding cuts, inflation, and failed levies. They are being forced to cut essential services. Meanwhile our Republican controlled state government is dumping tons of money into private school vouchers so that our state taxes are subsidizing wealthy families giving their kids private educations. We are actively supporting the education levies in Wood County. If you would like a "Vote YES for Education sign," respond to this email and we will bring you one. We have also been asked to help with door to door campaigning. Let us know if you can knock on some doors. But the most important thing is to remember to VOTE by May 6th.
May 5 is the deadline for candidates filing for Bowling Green and North Balitimore Councils. If you are someone who has considered running, now is the time. Respond to this email ASAP. We still have time to get the necessary petition signatures to put you on the ballot.
Northwood's deadline is July 8, and other offices and school boards is August 6. Rossford City Council deadline is September 1.
Also, keep the pressure up on Theresa Gavarone on SJR 3, the bill that would tear up the US constitution and create a new, fascist, one by calling for a constitutional convention. Call her office and email her, asking for a response. Let me know if she has responded to any of you, yet. We are trying to set up a meeting with her.
As you can see, there's a ton of things that need doing, and we need your help to do them all well. Showing up is 9/10ths of everything. Show up. Do something to help make the Green future possible.
