Joe Runs for County Commissioner
I wasn't planning to run for County Commissioner. My plan was to wait until 2027 and run for Mayor of Bowling Green, again. Our excellent showing of 26% in 2023 was very encouraging. But, then came the Meta data center.
The monstrosity going up along Dixie Highway was a shock to me, and to almost all the residents of Wood County. Most people didn't realize what was happening until the heavy machinery started pouring in.
Most people didn't know, but a tiny group of "elites" did. For a long time now, it's been said that our region is being run by a small group of wealthy families that make deals in secret and keep the public shut out of the loop. The data center showed us that whispered fear was a reality. Secret agreements, tons of money, incredible tax breaks, for a measly return of a few security and housekeeping jobs.
I've been talking to people who've had the value of their home ruined, their wells polluted, the peace and quiet of their homes shattered. The more I learned about data centers, how they gobble up land, water and resources, how they pollute the air, and how they force up electricity costs for everyone, the more I realized they had to be stopped.
I'm running to stop future data centers and other bad developments from eating away at our quiet, peaceful county. Wood County is mostly rural and many people have moved here precisely because it's not over developed like Toledo or Columbus.
Ecological Wisdom has always been one of main pillars of my political activism. There's nothing wise about these data centers. If you want them stopped. Elect me.
