Our next event, Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island

Hello, and thanks for being Green! First off, we'd like to welcome the substantial number of people who signed up for this email list at the anti-Trump protest in BG. It was a great protest with almost 300 people, lots of positive energy and support from the cars going by. Greens were very well represented. Thanks to all of you for showing up!

We are headed for some very dark times during the next four years, but the best way to fight dark times is with bright action! Come on out to Joe's house, 517 S Main Street in BG, for our regular monthly meeting Friday, Feb 28 at 7 PM, to help us map out a Green Future.

We have two actions coming up in March. On Saturday, March 8, we will be showing the film "Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island." This award winning documentary tells the story of four mothers who have been fighting the lies and secrecy of the nuclear industry ever since their families were exposed to radiation during the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster. There will be a zoom question and answer with the Director, Dr. Heidi Hutner, afterwards. The movie will be at 7 PM at the Unitarian Church on Dixie Highway north of BG. Rides are available!

Then on March 11, it's the 14th anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, which turned a huge chunk of Japan into a radioactive wasteland. As we do every year, we will be participating in the Unplug Nuclear Power event. That is, we ask everyone to boycott grid electricity as much as possible for the 24 hours of March 11 as a protest against nuclear power and in memory of the victims of Fukushima past, present, and future. More information is at www.unplugnuclearpower.com

There's no pro-Palestine protest this week at the corner of Main and Wooster, but there will be one next week. Savannah Click has moved to an every other week schedule. However, there will be a movie shown this Sunday, 2 PM, at the Sylvania branch library called "Voices of Palestine: Women During Genocide." The genocide in Palestine has not stopped since Biden was removed from office. Although the ceasefire has stopped the bombings in Gaza, Israel has shifted its ethnic cleansing to the West Bank. Add to that Trump's insane plan to make Palestine a US territory minus the Palestineans and it's clear now is not the time to look away.

We Greens never look away. Guided by our Key Values of Ecological Wisdom, Grassroots Democracy, Social Justice, and Non-Violence, we continue to fight for things like universal single payer health care, a shift to 100% clean renewable energy, and a foriegn policy based on peace, not war. As Trump continues to steamroll over the country, it's increasingly clear that Democrats are unable to stop him. Greens are needed now more than ever.

Australians are also facing an election that threatens to put in place a government of right wing ideolouges, supported by corrupt billionaires like Rupert Murdoch. But, there Greens are part of the current government and they just used their political clout to keep the Labor Party from backpedlling on their climate committments. Under pressure from the right, some Labor politicians wanted to scuttle Australia's incredible progress towards a carbon free energy system and turn back to coal and gas. The Greens wouldn't let them. Here, Greens are shut out of government and we see Democrats turning rightward on issue after issue in order to woo Republican voters who spurn them anyways. There are over 100 Green in local offices in the US, every one making a difference and giving people hope for a better future. Please consider running for office as a Green. In 2026, we have what is probably our last chance for the Greens to regain a ballot line in Ohio. We need to start preparing, now and we need to run as many local candidates as possible. Please consider being one of them.

But, even if you aren't comfortable running for office, we hope to see you Friday the 28th at Joe's house for pizza. Come talk politics and plan the path to a Green future.
